Description

I know very little about this strip. Dale Ulrey was born in 1904 as Mildred Dale Connor had been Mary Orr's assistant on the "Mary Worth" strip, and took over drawing it sometime in the '30s (under the name Dale Connor for some of that time, changing her name when she married a guy called Ulrey). I"m not sure when Ulrey left "Mary Worth," but it seems to have been in the 40s. She took on a couple more strips, including "Ayer Lane," which she also wrote, and which was apparently aviation-themed. It must not have been terrible successful, as it took flight in April 1945, and was permanently grounded sometime in 1947. Nice brushwork on this strip, looser and more expressive than what I've seen of Ulrey's Mary Worth examples. It's also nicely laid-out, with an easy dynamism.

Ulrey was later well-known for her illustrations of several 1950s editions of L. Frank Baum's Oz books. She died in 1989.

Looks nice with the aerial acrobatics causing the reactions on the characters. In a post war world, maybe there was less interest in things that reminded people of the war.
