Description

This is the May. Day 04. Thirty-One days of Star Wars continues...

Star Wars: Droids was an eight-issue comic book series published by Star Comics, an imprint of Marvel Comics, from 1986 to 1987. The series was based on the animated Star Wars: Droids television show, which aired in the 1985–86 season and was canceled shortly after this series began. Here is a page from issue #2 penciled by John Romita, Sr., inked by Al Williamson (Jon D'Agostino also inked some pages from this issue), lettered by Grace Kremer, and written by Dave Manak. Romita and Williamson, are you kidding me!?!?

On this page, Tig Fromm and Vlix Oncard have kidnapped the Idd family to get their hands on a high-powered laser. Tig-gee!! For all you who remember the cartoon, this voice is now sounding in your head. Then the intro song will start to creep in... you are welcome.

May the Fourth be with you!

I was very disappointed as a kid that the cartoon lasted only one season. The comic book was fun, and you can't beat the talent that touched this page.

One can't help but think of Spidey with the Romita name, but I knew if there was to be a Romita in my collection it would be from Droids. Sometimes when I just need some background noise, or filling a few minutes around the house, I'll pop up an episode of the cartoon on Disney+. Old times...

A Star Wars love is beautiful
But it's not enough
To satisfy droid motions
That are shared by Lucas

A Marvel love is cozy
But I need so much more
It just intensifies my wants
To have artwork that endures

'Cause every time I close my eyes
I think of Droids
And no matter what the season nears
I still love Droids
With all my art
And I want to be Artoo
Romita your art

I only Threepio on animations
Sides dark and light
I'd go for broke if I could be with page
Only you can claim it right

All the pedigree of Marvel Royalty in a fun Archie romp! I never thought I'd see the day.

I have bitersweet feelings about this date every year. It's nice to see all Star Wars fans salute each other, but is it really also necessary to make fun of people who have lisps? I don't think that's cool.
