Description

Liam Sharp has been getting some well deserved praise for his recent work on Green Lantern and Wonder Woman. I first became a fan of his art in the 90's when he was working on Death's Head and then the Hulk. I've been picking up examples of his Hulk art for a while now, but this one is probably my favorite.

This is a "cover quality" splash featuring a 90's pumped up Speedfreek facing off against the Hulk (futilely attempting to keep a low profile via bandages, sunglasses and a bandanna). It's got a cool stained glass window background and some slick inking by Robin Riggs. I think this is one of those pages that benefits by not having the word balloons on it. Thanks to Steve Yarish for the trade.

Not sure what this might say about me, but I can't stop looking at those nipples. LOL! In any case, this is a tremendous cover. Reminds me that I need to put a Sharp page on my wantlist.

Ha yeah -- they're pretty prominent. I think this came out at around the same time as Batman Forever -- so apparently nipples on armored costumes was a thing back in the mid 90's...

I think he fires bullets from those nipples. It's pretty impressive to see Liam's work from back then, following up Gary Frank's run on the title. Riggs was a very complimentary inker for his style, too.

A display of 90's unabashed machismo where the male anatomy is visually a weapon that assaults the senses with testosterone and roided out bulges and some glorious Fabio hair. He is framed with a stained glass motif as if he is a gift sent from the heavens to fanboys looking for the next big thing.
