DescriptionAnother commission of Lake Como Comic Art Festival 2022 is this piece by the great cover artist Mark Brooks. We had been in talks with his lovely wife Lisa throughout the months before the show and Mark would only have the time to do a couple of pieces at the show - most of them head sketches & only 1 bust/torso each day. Their advice was clear: "get to our table FAST". Luckily, we did. My girlfriend managed to get third at his table on Saturday morning and we got on the list. Originally, I wanted Mark to do an hommge to a famous Mary Jane cover for which a bust would have sufficed, but in the end, it became clear on Sunday that he didn't have the time to do my bust/torso piece. However, he would give my "head commission" a bit extra. Later on, I saw the first torso piece, which pulled the camera back a bit, and (while you got more figure work) I preferred the zoomed-in focus on the face more. And technically, Mark did give me a bust, in the end. Love the 3/4 posing; his recognizable popping marker work, the playful look and the Spidey reference. Size is 10x14. Sometimes a piece gets better by not getting exactly what you wanted! Social/Sharing |

Great commission - my focus at the Como show was not to wait in lines and have few beer instead :-). We also had a great time. Congrats on this piece.

Thanks, Andy! I was too impressed by all the artists and opportunities to take it slow, I'm afraid. This was my first convention at this scale, with these kind of names. The second day was a lot slower, luckily, so a lot more chances to talk to everyone!

The mix of the brilliant red hues and bright white makes for a lovely contrast filling in the fine linework. The shading and fleshtones help blend between the two and give MJ a 3D look of substance and feel.
