Art by Dick Ayers and John Severin,On Memorial Day (originally known as Decoration Day), we honor and mourn the U.S. military personnel who died while serving their country. The "Bulge" is widely considered the largest and bloodiest single battle fought by the U.S. and its Allies in World War II.. One of the most important battles in America history as it marked the last major offensive attempted by the Axis powers on the Western front. After this epic battle, the defeated Nazi forces could only retreat for the remainder of the war. Allied casualties exceeded 700,0000 including over 80,000 U.S. soldiers. Social/Sharing |

There seemed to be a very low casualty rate for Nick Fury and the Howling Commandos considering.

The battle lines are drawn by Ayes and Severin have such urgency to them! They put Fury and Commandos in the line of fire and in our line of sight! It's special as these war stories are often more anti-war than jingoism.

Fabulous Sgt. Fury cover by Dick Ayers and John Severin! I was a huge fan of this book as a kid and loved reading about "Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos." My Dad had fought in WWII and reading this comic always made me feel proud of his service. This is a great cover even with the POV from the German perspective. The US soldiers look tiny compared to the massive German tank that's bearing down on them. The Nazi soldiers in the foreground are throwing hand grenades at the American GIs who charge bravely forward. Stunning work by Ayers and Milgrom! Fantastic pick-up, congrats!

The layout is so good, but the exceptional inking from Severin really makes this one stand out. There's a crispness to the edges of the figures, and also a great variety of line styles and hatching to makes some parts girtty while others shine and reflect. Such a great job, and a fabulous piece to own!
