DescriptionThe world of comics lost a legend yesterday.I lost a friend. I knew this was coming. I’d been informed a few weeks back things were not good. But when news hit Monday that Tim had been admitted to the hospital, it still came as a shock. And by that afternoon I’d learned he had very little time left. I spent the day crying, reminiscing and chatting with a few of our shared friends. By night time, with my wife and kids asleep, I found myself in the same place I usually do. Here on CAF, looking at Tim’s art. This time though, it wasn’t about admiring the work of my favorite artist. It was about feeling a connection to my friend. After flipping through piece after piece, I decided to head over to Essential Sequential and grab this page I’d been eyeing for a while. I don’t love Cap: White like I do some of his other works, but there’s something so very Tim about this first panel. The poses. The lighting. The innocence. It’s everything I love about his work encapsulated in a single panel, and acquiring it helped to momentarily chase the blues away. It arrived today, which just so happens to be my birthday. And what better present could I receive than more of this man’s spectacular art? But, the truth is, I had the best gift of all for the last 17 years. Tim’s friendship. What's more, I've had the friendship of the crew he brought together on his old message board. I spent last night talking with all of them, and we made each other laugh through our collective sorrow. Despite our loss, I’m surprisingly ok today because our bonds and memories will live on. Just one more gift Tim gave us all. Tim, I love you, brother. Thank you for making me part of your life. I’m sorry we never got the chance to say goodbye, but I know you knew how much you meant to me. And you always made sure I knew I meant something to you too. There’s a hole in my heart, now and forever, but my life is much richer thanks to your art, your kindness and your friendship. Social/Sharing |

Bittersweet addition no doubt. But that top panel is great.

Thanks for sharing the story and the art. And you're right, that first panel is unmistakably a Tim Sale panel. Congratulations on another piece to remember a great artist who you were fortunate enough to also call friend.
