DescriptionPound for pound, does a better deal exist in the current original comic art market than a Mike Perkins page? The techniques and pure artistic muscle on display on each page are beyond impressive, the prices are (way) more than reasonable, and PLUS you get to deal with Rubén as the art rep. :)With his masterful use of floating panels to narratively link “disconnected” or surface images to other deeper images, Mike uses the static medium of comics as leverage to actually set up a visual “jump scare”. By floating the four smaller “main story” panels over (basically) a full-page panel of the Pale Wanderer, Mike gives the Wanderer a primal, foundational “precedence” on the page, like he was here first and the Living are all imposing upon his turf. The shadow supersedes and engulfs all, looking for any opening or vulnerability in the other panels’ walls in the hopes of seeping in. Once the reader makes it to "panel" 4, the Wanderer's face jumps out at them with terrifying force. Mike Perkins has some _serious_ chops. And does anyone draw a better setting / establishing shot in comics than Mike Perkins? That inky fifth panel is so real, it’s… well, scary. I know the big draw here is the breathtaking shot of the Pale Wanderer, but doggone it if I don’t find that first panel just as compelling, with its chiaroscuro (one of Mike’s many strengths) and raw display of human emotion - all internalized pain and denial. THANK YOU once again, Mike and (of course) Rubén! (Find more of Mike’s artwork at comicbookartgallery.com !) Social/Sharing |

Thank you! I AM pretty awesome to deal with. I wish I could deal with me for all my transactions. Thanks of behalf of Mike as well!
The Pale Wanderer gives off a primal, foundational “precedence” like he was here first, because at least in terms of everyone alive today, he WAS here first!
Woe to you, oh earth and sea
For the Devil sends the beast with wrath
Because he knows the time is short
Let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the beast
For it is a human number
Its number, is six hundred and sixty-six

I got some money in my pocket, got some Perkins art in mail
I can hear the dive's a-knocking, yes this page is off the rails
Drinking, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh
I'm talking 'bout you-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh
I got some new best friends for jump scares, see, ink wash 'em at the bar
Where the whiskey goes down better, when they know Pale Wanderer
Singing, ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh
I'm talking 'bout you-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh, gonna feel this in the drawing
Ooh-ooh, 'cause Mike’s going hard tonight
So Wanderer, take Ram V
What do you want from me?
Baby, I'm drunk, and this page crawls up my bones
Not washing ink too light
His visions out of sight
Baby, I'm drunk, and this page brings it all home
We don't drink no water in the weekend
There's always lines for brushing to the deep end
So don't you wait up tonight
Don't worry, lines be fine
Baby, I'm drunk, and I’ll Pale Wander go home, yeah

Fabulous page from this amazing series! Dramatic and cinematic, with memorable images that stuck with me after I finished the series.

That 5th panel is indeed quite realistically grounded. We are talking near JPLeon level here.
But that's not a page I'd want in my house.
That 4rth panel? You can have it.
In your bedroom.
Above (under?) your bed ;)

Just top to bottom sequential awesomeness! The scene setting, the vibe, the pure illustration, the layers...this one really does have it all, as they say! I'm continually impressed by Perkins SW pages here on CAF, and this is no exception. Congrats!
