DescriptionHakes Auction #235 for July 26-27 is now on line. They describe this item as: "Approx. 3x4-1/8" catalog has 16 pages and advertises Disney books available to order for Spanish libraries and/or bookstores. Printed c. 1935 in Madrid, Spain by Sociedad General de Libreria, cover translates to "Walt Disney Albums" and features great specialty art of Mickey Mouse carrying large stack of books w/Pluto in bkg. Inside front cover has list of published titles and catalog goes on to showcase these titles w/six full color pages and seven bluetone pages. The full color pages spotlight books w/covers similar to those published in the US by David McKay while bluetone pages feature specialty art. Color centerfold shows five books, including titles w/Minnie Mouse, Pluto and Horace Horsecollar. Rare and first we've seen in our 55 years." HOW EVER ... a few days before seeing this on Hakes Auction i purchased on E-bay the same item. Upon comparing the two I find I have an earlier version with a different centerfold showing other children's books. Also a couple of other early Disney books are pictured. I notice the table of contents of my version states in Spanish that "other titles are in preparation." Many of the bluetone covers appear on the early Hachette French series and books from South America.Social/Sharing |
