Description

After all but giving up on getting a meaningful page from this run, this baby fell in my lap a couple of weeks ago. While I’d seen some of Quitely’s early work in snippets and then on his terrific run on The Authority, New X-Men was the book I was exposed to the full extent of his storytelling mastery applied to characters I’ve loved for a long time. E is for Extinction was a haymaker of a start to Grant Morrison’s story. Seeing Logan go to town on these junkion Sentinels is a thing of beauty - with the middle panel looking like a page from an IKEA instructional manual. And Cyclops manages to get in a lying-on-his-ass optic blast too. BEYOND thrilled to own this page!

Nice page.  I really like that, except for the middle panel, all the others are long distance shots.  Gives the page a very cinematic feel.

Continuing that wide-screen storytelling from where he left off on The Authority!

The middle panel is one of my favorite panels of the whole run. Quintessential Quitely right there. Fantastic sequence all around, congrats!

Whaaaat?!?! You'd given up on getting a page fro mthis run, then just happen to snag one focused primarily on Wolverine?!?! The art gods are shining down upon you, good sir. Absolutely brilliant acquisition!

Love this kind of gritty, rough and tumble X-page.  Quoting animated series Cyclops, "Energy blasts, huh?  Here's one from a pro!"

What an amazing addition to your collection, great action page, cool that it's early in the run, and all Wolverine. Lot's of great Quietly detail and a silhouette in panel 5....Who says Quitely doesn't spot blacks? I love it.

A fun piece from that run, so many great stories, turns abd twists for the lives of X.   The art was pretty great too.  Nice find, glad it found you.

Love this! Action all around and with that awesome mid panel. Looks like big Wolvie hit that Sentinel with a good old fashoined "Tornado Claw"! Congrats!

Each panel differs greatly from the others, yet they all come together to depict one fascinating and engaging scene. I always think of NewXMen as the book that marked the end of bad writing in X-Men, but if it wasn't for Quitely's art, I may not have even given the book a chance.

Inked Quitely from his mythical X-Men run, focusing on Wolverine. How rare ! Excellent find

Some days you don't want to get out of bed and just want to do your job while lying down like a real leader that's Cyclops.

I'm still waiting for one of these to land in my lap. But I've kind of given up.

Probably my favorite run of X-Men, and Quitely was the highlight of a very talented team of artists.

Congrats!

I'd be SO jealous if I hadn't just picked up a piece from this run.  I am still a little jealous, though ;)  Love it, man.  To me, hard to top as an example from one of my favorite X runs ever, and similar to you, where I found and subsequently fell in love with Quitely's art.  Huge congrats!

From what I consider Marvel's most innovative period of the past three decades.  The X-books were exciting again for the first time in years.  Congrats on the amazing pickup!

CONGRATS, Eranga!  Good grief, from giving up hope to turning around and landing this treasure - awesomesauce.  Quitely was fired up from the get-go on NXM, and this page proves what a badass he is.  Narratively speaking, the page needs no words to convey the flow of the action, the stakes, or the power being thrown around here, and there's something in each panel that lets you see the unfettered imagination and incredible talent and technique of the artist; Wolverine popping out of panel 1 thanks to the negative space of the steam cloud he's in front of, panel 2's quick pivot to a lightning fast establishing shot to set the stage for panel 3's widescreen explosion ("our heroes may prevail here!").  Panel 4, with Cyclops's uncontrolled and undirected beams as he regains consciousness was something I had never seen before ("Of COURSE that's what would happen!"), and was a wicked piece of character and hero deconstructionism.  Panel 5 is just plain brilliant (my favorite on the page) with the overwhelming mass of the Wild Sentinel conveying in one image the hopelessness of our heroes' plight..

.
Townsend utterly DESTROYS on this thing, too, setting just enough detail or solid black in each panel to make every bit of storytelling and drama land just perfectly for the reader.  Incredible page, E!  It makes me want to go and read the whole arc again. :)  MEGA-congrats, pal!

I can't imagine I'll ever be so lucky as to get one of these Quitely beauties myself, but I hold out hope.  In the meantime, I'm overjoyed that you're sharing this in your gallery for us all to enjoy.  Beautiful piece.
