Description

Dubrava is the planet much of this issue takes place on, and this series is the only time it is shown in Star Wars comicdom. It was only mentioned briefly again in the novel Fate of the Jedi: Vortex years later. Part of the Star Wars appeal for me are all the various alien races. So even though a Vader page would seem a natch from a series titled Vader�s Quest, I opted for one focused on two of the Dubravians. These folks kinda remind me of the asparagus people Dark Phoenix wiped out when she consumed their star.

I have heard tales of OA purchases and deals occurring at a dinner, but this was the first time it happened to me. However, when you happen to be at dinner with Joseph Melchior when you mention Dave Gibbons is a Star Wars artist not represented in your collection yet, sometimes the OA stars suddenly align. Cheers to Joseph for repping Mr. Gibbons and having some Star Wars pages on hand while he was at SDCC. And many thanks to Mikail and family for hosting an enjoyable dinner for some of us CAF folk who were in town. Much art and many stories were shared, and the memories will be warm ones for quite some time.

Fun fact, before finally getting his big break in 1999 on the four issues of this Star Wars mini series, Dave Gibbons did some work on 2000AD, Dr. Who Weekly, and Watchmen along with about a million other things. I kid! I kid! So much talent, such an amazing and diverse career.

Such a great page! Dave really created the planet and atmosphere wholistically and that top panel is particularly fantastic. Great acquisition story too!

Easily one of my favorite Star Wars miniseries from Dark Horse, with Gibbons delivering the goods with his amazing storytelling skills.

First, there is the simple joy of receiving a Marcus comment. Then the study and enjoyment of what he weaved into the lines. But then the topper, the link to enjoy a tune that may be familiar, topping current charts, decades old, or previously unknown to the listener. Marcus, we appreciate you.

Wow, first Ian Gibson and now Dave Gibbons. It appears it was UK Artists on Star Wars Week when you posted these pages! I agree, too, the characters do look like the D'Bari that Dark Phoenix destroyed.
