DescriptionRealized I hadn’t posted a splash page yet this year so I’m remedying that over the next couple weeks – here, the Watcher! Or…Professor Xavier?! Or is he both?!! Always liked that last line from the first appearance of the Hulk :)In this goofy fun issue, we get a few different wacky stories featuring mashups of existing carriers, “unaware of their warped origins”. Here, Observer-X, x-plaining what you’re about to x-perience in an x-cellent intro! Check out the published image :) The art is pretty awesome in hand. Observer-X looks great, with the dark inks in some areas and ink wash grey tone in others (check out the sheen on the chair), but what really got me was the environment. The perspective choice adds a nice depth, enhanced on by the bridge he’s rolling on, as well as that planet/space background outside the window. And check out all that Kirby tech goodness, going from edge to edge of the 11x17 board! And to top it off, some nice touches of spatter throughout. I’m glad to have recently found Flaviano’s work – he’s GOOD. I’d recommend checking out his stuff. Don’t think this will be my last piece. X-celsior! Social/Sharing |

Hahaha! This is really great. I loved the whole Secret Warps concept. We got introduced to some wonderful new characters who were familiar yet wackily different, like Observer-X here who speaks in "X's" except for that one "Y?" Love it. Congrats on this very fun addition.

Ha! Why the "Y"? Or is it Y the "Y"? In any case, I love it. That was my favorite part of his monologue. Just so random to have the "Y" there. But not. Lol. Thanks, Paul, and all, for the comments!

I just recently discovered Flaviano's work myself and picked up an America page as a result. This is a fabulous splash complete with Kirby inspired machinery. Gotta love it!

So, am I to understand that Marvel produced a comic book featuring a satirical look at its own characters? I hope so, as that is x-actly what I think the hobby needs. All the serious stuff can be very X-austing and often makes me want to take an x-acto knife to my comics and artwork! You think that's an x-aggerated reaction? X-actly! But it's either that or taking a hammer to my x-ternal hard drive. But don't worry about me, I'm just going through an x-istential crisis of sorts.....

Great splash, K! I love the funky, retro Kirby-isms (and Krackle!) with a nice "modern" wash steeped into it (especially via the depiction of outer space on the viewscreen, and the sweet shading on all the machinery). I can always count on you to point me towards new art and artists I should be checking out; thanks, man! :)
