DescriptionAs a kid, G.I. Joe was the first comic I got into and soon after I began collecting The ‘NAM as well; it quickly became one of my favorites and still holds up as a great (albeit nostalgic) re-read today. I’ve been wanting a good ‘NAM page for a while and am happy to finally fill that gap! Artist Wayne Vansant contributed art duties for many issues of THE ‘NAM and penciled this issue, and Geof Isherwood provides some nice dark and detailed inks.Interestingly, I think the captions on the first two panels summarize both the page and the Vietnam war itself very well: “As the fighting continues…it becomes clear that neither side can attain a clear victory.” Worth reading, an excerpt from the letters page from this issue (THE ‘NAM #25): “This issue of THE ‘NAM is based on historical fact. The attacks at Khe Sanh, Hue, and Da Nang were truly part of the Vietnam war. The amphibious assault across the Perfume River, the massacre in Hue, and the attack on the cathedral all really happened just as they do here. In the U.S., the Tet attacks were considered a great victory for the NVN and Cong -- to those of us there, it was the NVN who were defeated. History shows who was right.” Social/Sharing |
