DescriptionX-Men continuing the tradition and playing America’s greatest pastime, baseball, nearly 40 years later!One of my favorited things about the X books is seeing these characters living their lives not just in battles but in every day life and activities. It really brings these characters further to life. And as expected their tradition of having any proper downtime is always interrupted. I like that there is always repeated themes throughout the X series as well and mutant baseball is high on my list, alongside their lounging by the X mansion pool (maybe one day for one of those pages). Mike Mayhew and Marc Guggenheim do a great job intermixing these two main Blue and Gold teams in this issue. There are so many characters with various voices and they are all heard really well and uniquely in these stories and in the art. Featured just on this page we see featured young Cyclops (at bat), Nightcrawler (catcher), Colossus (pitcher) and Kitty (umpire). In the BG we get to see a bunch of other characters like young Jean, Rachel (Prestige), Karma (?), Rockslide, Storm, young Angel at the bases; you also get to see Old Man Logan and Jimmy (new Wolverine from Ultimate series) on the bleachers and Kid Gladiator high giving Magik (?); and Blood Storm, Ink, young Beast and young Iceman behind the fence. So many great characters collected together from so many realities playing a common game of baseball to build further bonds. In my collection, I have the first game of Mutant baseball from X-Men #110 (1978), where we get to see Colossus at bat knocking the ball into orbit before Jean telekinetically catches it. In this page (2017) we see Colossus pitching out Cyclops, I guess we can conclude the best X player is still Colossus by far. Social/Sharing |

I always wondered how this game could be played with super-human reflexes, strength, telekinesis, etc. Must be a challenge for everyone to try to keep the game normal.

Beautiful DPS. Nice addition to you X-Men collection. I always enjoyed the downtime issues, they generally came with memorable if not quirky character moments.

Youre right! Cosmic duels and earth shaking collisions with foes are fun but without some good old fashion character developmwnt like this, what's all that action for? Awesome DPS!
