Description

A mass of merry Marvel mutants makes the most of Madripoor, courtesy of Milo Manara, in a story composed by Chris Claremont. Seems the X-Women have been robbed of their powers, captured by a jungle commune, and put to work. Psylocke slops the hogs; Rogue does the washin'; Kitty Pryde is bedridden with a fever.

Manara is known for his cheesecake, and the main figures here are typically appealing, but I love the life in the background, like the kids and pigs cavorting around, oblivious of the prestigious company they keep. Check out the baby with the lolling tongue, the dilapidated fence, the grimy pipes.

Each of the three women has her own hair: thin, straight, and black for Psylocke; slightly wavy and thicker for Rogue, and frizzy for Kitty. Oh, the tropical humidity! Manara's distinctive non-noses recall the style of Milton Caniff.

The trade paperback version gushed over this page in particular, reprinting it in black and white after the main story (see additional images). I was able to reunite Manara with this page at the Lake Como Art Festival 2023, long enough to get his picture with it. Then with Claremont a month later at Heroes Con 2023.

I totally agree with your description: Milo's ladies are goddesses, but he's great at drawing everything. Gorgeous page!

There is good girl art and then there is Milo Manara. The detail he adds to each panel just takes this to a different level. Cheers!
