Description

Russ Heath's barndoor DPS' of each issue of Our Army at War were the spectacular hook that grabbed you in. I'm not a terribly sentimental collector, but Heath's portrayal of war and fighting men, as it were, was what I grew up with. His realistic artwork, combined with Bob Kanigher's stories written during the twilight of the vietnam conflict, influenced my worldview like few others. Sgt Rock was solidly set in World War II, but the lessons of war are timeless. Like the television series, M*A*S*H, Bob's stories would forever change me as a person and Heath's artwork would sculpt the kind of artist I would admire. Kudos to both men for such extraordinary work at such a pivotal time in US history.

Those DPSs did indeed seal the deal. This one is fantastic in its build-up of tension that culminates in an explosive delivery – just like a Sgt. Rock story! Congrats on this fantastic piece.

Heath can get a lot of emotion out of the genre with displays of sacrifice, valor, and survival. A clinic is put on here by Heath as we see an ambush to set forth the conflict and hardship. It looks like a war comic strip on top with the illustration style and then is followed up by the explosive comics dps image!
