Description15" x 10" image area. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Witching Hour #34 Pages 6-7 DRACULA'S DAUGHTER AND BROTHER Original Art (DC 1973). Nestor Redondo. From what I consider the absolute peak era of horror comic art, this creepy yet lush two page sequence closes the coffin on the story, "Dracula Had a Daughter". In it, we meet Dracula's "blood relations". Not only Dracula's timelessly beautiful daughter Olga, but also his brother, Uncle Franz Dracula (Hurvath). Debtor Stefan is unexpectedly invited in for a bite. Despite the broad array of my fledgling comic art collection, I never read superhero comics. My only focus back in the day as a macabre-loving little creep, was HORROR! And so, my only nostalgic memories of comics and all the stories and moments to savor were stories like this. What's not to love about these two pages? What I specially treasure though, are the vintage depictions of the Witching Hour hostess narrating the story. OH, and that shadow (ode to Nosferatu), in the second to last panel on page 7 just takes the prize! Social/Sharing |

Redondo was one of comics' greatest draftsmen... I love his art! Thanks for sharing these wonderful pages.

It's Mildred as the host and it's so great that she takes such delight as the horror unfolds!

Great job picking up some sweet Redondo art - he is still underappreciated by many but you can see not your commenters!

Ooh, what a great pair of pages, John! Redondo has always been a favourite of mine. I've loved his stuff since I first began reading and collecting comics and I discovered his Swamp Thing issues. The storytelling here is SO clear. Everything has clear separation from each other due to the wonderful composition and creation of depth with great usage of blacks. Wonderful!

Thanks Ruben. I agree. Nothing compares to the art style and storytelling of these vintage gems.
