DescriptionHad the pleasure of briefly meeting Richard Case at Heroes this summer, and knew if I was going to Baltimore I was going to try and get an original piece from him. I lucked out on this one because when I got to his table, there was no Doom Patrol art left to be found. We spoke for a little bit and he showed me a rough pencil drawing that he had been working on for Baltimore but did not get it finished in time for the convention. Turns out it was the exact characters I would have requested. Crazy Jane, first and foremost, along with Cliff Steele/Robotman, and Larry Trainor/Negative Man. I told him I was staying until Sunday and he said he could have it finished by then. I stopped by a couple times over the course of the weekend, and actually got to see it in different stages of the process, from complete pencils to partial inks, and then the finished piece. I should have taken pictures, but I was too focused on staring intensely at it. When he handed me the finished piece, I couldn't help but smile. The inks really brought these characters to life and I am now very happy to have a great Doom Patrol drawing from Richard Case. I hope to eventually get a published page from his run, but I think this was a fantastic start. Big thanks to Richard Case for completing this piece for me by Sunday, I feel lucky to have gotten it. 9x12 on brown paper Social/Sharing |

Yes! Great piece from THE Doom Patrol artist (to me, anyway). Case still draws these characters so well.

Couldn't agree more Mark. I like all of the runs, but Case is the best! Thanks!

Case was definitely the artist of note for plenty of the Grant Morrison stories that took them in weird new directions. He can show great facial expression even though Larry and Cliff shouldn't be able to.

That is a great illustration. I saw it in stages as well.

Wow, nice score! It's in this zone somewhere between con sketch & full, polished piece — which, in a way, is perfect for these characters.
