DescriptionI've actually owned this art for around 15 years now, but I'm just finally getting around to posting it.This is a page from only the second Legion story that Dave Cockrum both penciled and inked -- and he particularly went wild with the Zip-A-Tone usage here. If you compare this with the page that I own from #184, you can see how much Dave's art improved in a very short period of time. This issue features the debut of Duo Damsel's new costume, which was actually designed by a fan named Nick Pascale. Dave added the cool boots though. I believe this is also the first appearance of Chameleon Boy's new "hoody" costume, which was designed by Dave himself. Reminder that it's still not too late to check out "The Life & Art of Dave Cockrum", by Glen Cadigan, published by TwoMorrows. It's a great biography featuring a ton of his artwork. Social/Sharing |

Wonderful Cockrum Legion page! I loved Duo Damsel's new costume. And I agree about Glen's book - highly recommended!

Love the costume designs, the zip, and even the callbacks to an earlier age of sci-fi with the Enterprise and the B-movie large bird! The Cockrum sense of wonder is all over the page.

Yep, the Cockrum pencils and inks are fabulous. I always loved Dave's own inks on his pencils more than anyone else's. Great zip-a-tone, too!

Beautiful early work by Dave on the team book with the most infantil character names (which were only possible at timestruck DC then) but sexiest 1970s costumes. And gladly Marvel hired the man for Chris Claremonts "New" X-Men in 1974 ahortly after to draw more great costumes (like Storm's) and more adult team action. The newest version of the USS Enterprise starship in the first panel here is also a winner :)

Magnificent early Cockrum! His impeccable flair for design was already very much in place...

Every time I see Ted Latner in my watched gallery pop up, I hold my breath and wonder ... "what Hulk art has he beaten me to this time". Nice DC page! And thanks for the break!

Ha thanks. I'm taking a temporary break from the Hulk, but we'll see what shows up on Comic Art Live this weekend!

The effect of Duo Damsel splitting in the second panel is wonderfully done. A fantastic example of early Cockrum greatness all around.
