Description

Batman #698 Original cover art (June 2010), for the story "Riddle Me This, Part One: Black Magic Tricks". Tony S. Daniel's style is immediately recognizable on this cover which prominently features The Riddler. Nygma has clearly just taken some shots, evidenced by his broken glasses and bloody jaw. Despite this, he mockingly stands his ground as you can see Batman winding up for another blow in the reflection of the unbroken lens.

I have always loved Tony's work, and this cover is a great example. I love the little details...aforementioned reflection, spittle on his chin, the look of defiance in the face of danger. Riddler doesn't grace the cover of Batman often, so for him to be the main attraction is quite fun!

Accomplished in ink over graphite on 11"x17" art board. Signed on Riddler's sleeve by Tony. Also features a fun prelim sketch of a full bodied Batman swooping through the air on the back (second image). When I asked Tony what it was for, he could not remember. Still a fun extra to go along with the published cover!

I love that Batman is seen winding up to land another blow in order to wipe that grin of Riddler's face. Really fun touch!
