DescriptionFlash #123 Cover Reimagination (2022) Chris Ring - Calvin & Hobbes Mash-UpBill has spoken many times about how we all to go to a dealer's website for what seems an eternity viewing a piece of artwork like it is ours only to one day find it gone. This time I didn't let that happen. I loved this piece of art from the first time I saw it and went back so many times. I hesitated because it went against my collecting norm of published art, and it wasn't an artist I knew. Still, it made me smile every time. I showed it to my wife, and she saw my smile and she said, "you know you want it, just buy it". Still, I hesitated. To say that this artwork was "made just for me" is an understatement. If you watched Nick's CAF interview talking about how much he loved the Flash and especially Crisis #8 and what he said about Barry's death being the most heroic sacrifice ever made by a super-hero know that from the day it was released, I've said the same thing and felt the same way. As far as Calvin & Hobbes go, back when the strip was being released and they first did collections I used to give them to others as gifts to hook them on it because I loved it so much. The concept behind the strip blew me away, and even then, I knew the execution was masterful. I carried them at the comic store I managed (back then collections were NOT the norm, and we didn't have a strip fan following). My buddy nick-named me "Spiff". And when the internet became a thing my first email name was a version of "Spaceman Spiff" and remains my primary email still today. But I think the biggest reason is simply that every time I see it, it makes me happy and brings a smile to my face. A shout out to Scott Kress at Catskill Comics for making it available and for wheeling and dealing a bit during a Sinnott sale so I stopped hesitating and pulled the trigger. Scott is one of the best in our hobby and (along with Mike and Anthony) one of the few dealers / art reps I have consistently purchased from over the years. If you haven't visited his website be sure to check it out. And thanks to Chris Ring for having the imagination and vision to create this wonderful artwork. If Bill Watterson is a comics fan and saw it, I'm sure he'd be smiling too! Social/Sharing |

Very well well designed and executed with an eye towards fun. It channels Calvin's and every Flash fan's imagination.
