DescriptionI am over the moon to have this awesome Matthew Allison commission of Swamp Thing in my collection. This is my favorite image from this artist, partially because it was the first drawing of Allison's I ever saw, but perhaps also because I first saw it when I was getting into this character during Ram V and Mike Perkins's wonderful Swamp Thing miniseries. I've since picked up the collected Cankor hardcover and A Pile of Spent Microns sketchbook, and I'm actively looking for Heavy Metal stories of his and anything new he decides to put out.I just love Allison's signature surfaces and textures, which work so well for Swamp Thing's "skin" here, IMO. The upper background of wavy tree silhouettes and lower background of pipe-like roots signifying The Green as I read it complement the figure perfectly. The uncertain and somewhat pained expression along with the contrapposto and beautifully spotted blacks of the figure really do it for me. Allison's upon us, it's sublime all year
Brushy ink Cankor, there's plenty to cheer
There's light mystery and there's tree with some lungs
There's mischief and mayhem, missed out and I'm bummed
There's chills when there's Swampy, Matt goes all gung-ho
True love finds a kiss beneath fresh Vertigo
Some commissions are messed up, but all his are fine

His look of horror/fear/defeat reminds me that being a swamp thing is tragic, no matter how cool he and his comic can be. Big congrats!

Phenomenal image of Swamp Thing by Matthew Allison. He appears to be growing a new arm, which he has to do occasionally. Love the strong light source that highlights ST against the dark forest background.

I don't know how he makes his inking look darker or slicker than anyone else. Swamp Thing looks like he's dripping. Congratulations -- it's always cool to see when an artist delivers an all-time take like this.

Lovely! Like how things get darker as you move down, and that expression as far as what is happening to him...so on point. Another Matt winner! Congrats!

M.Allison deftly captured the tortured, terrestrial existence of Swamp Thing here. As a ST collector myself, this is one I'd have wanted to have as well. Congrats!
