DescriptionSpider_Man. Nearly drowned. Trapped in chains. On a table. Prone before Kingpin and a group of other assorted criminal goons. It’s a terrific final splash. In “real life”, it’s game over, as most of the goons would quickly pull their guns and start blasting away. Spider powers do not include invulnerability. But in comics, especially older classics, it’s… continued next issue! And I am absolutely there for it. (And we know Spidey is going to get out of this — the joy is the “how?”) Pencils and inks here both by Blevins, who drew most of the early Sleepwalker issues, following his terrific run on New Mutants. Mightily Misleading Marvel strikes again. C'mon. As you say, do Marvel really expect us to believe not even one of the hardened criminals is carrying either a knife or gun or that the first thing they would do is remove the mask and take a few photos? And do not get me started on them explaining that he spider webbing it to his head just prior to being captured or some such nonsense. Ah, rant over. Its a very nice piece of artwork.

The expression on my face looking at this Blevins Sleepwalker splash equally matches the expression of the nerdy accountant looking at Spidey. This is a rare treat.

Really cool piece. I always dug (and fell for) the cliff hanger pages as well. Love the dialogue on this one too... I can almost hear Kingpin firing back something like "Of course no one has, you just captured him alive!"

With lots of new titles being put out in the 90's, they needed to weave them in and prop them up with crossovers of Marvel's hottest characters. Seeing Spidey appearances outside his own titles are always fascinating for fans of the character who may have missed out initially. A great cliffhanger splash by Blevins!
