DescriptionPublished 1983.Equinox the Thermodynamic Man first appeared in Marvel Team up 23 (1974) as the perfect foe for the Human Torch and Iceman. He can generate intense heat and cold within his body at the same time and his body is always shown as rippling between fire and ice. Like the Torch, he can throw fireballs and like the Iceman, he can generate ice slides. He possesses superhuman strength and durability and is immune to extreme heat or cold. The extreme strain his powers has put on his body is said to have driven him insane. The Thermodynamic Man was always intriguing in that he was the living embodiment of an unstable system - with the two extremes existing in one body without consuming each other. Interestingly enough, his debut issue hit the stands when I was studying Chemical Engineering in university and tackling the Laws of Thermodynamics. Social/Sharing |

You post your finds
Like Spider changes foes
Yeah you, thermal stress
Like a switch
Annual
And you over think
This is peak
Jim Mooney
I should know
That you're so good to see
'Cause you're hot then you're cold
You're ice, then fire ball
You're Equi, you're Nox
Heat up, then cool down
You'll burn when it's night
Art's black and it's white
We fight, web break up
We miss the team up
(You) You thermally want to stay, no
(You) But you don't really molecule
You're hot then you're cold
You're ice then slide home
You're hot then burn out
Inked up then splash down

Terry Sorenson, also known as Equinox, the Thermodynamic Man, a guy with all the powers of Iceman and the Human Torch. In the past he's been both a hero and a villain. So it can be a little hard to gauge his temperature.

OMG! I was going to say that this guy might've been interesting to all those fans who were into the laws of thermodynamics! Such a cool coincidence, Miki! Is that the main reason you bought this piece when it turned up?

Yes. And I almost sold it and had to slap myself silly for doing so! 😀
