DescriptionMy very first OA wantlist included a MAGE page. It took 17 years, but the right one for me finally showed up: Featuring the three mains and the introduction of a magical baseball bat. A baseball bat as Excalibur was a genius idea as far as I was concerned as a 14 year old. Still pretty cool now.Social/Sharing |

Boy howdy, you're not kidding, Felix! "Pretty cool", indeed! :) We're right around the same age, Felix, and I was similarly moved (and transported) by Matt Wagner's work. The impact it had on my life and comic book outlook was positively seismic, thanks to his inspired and cut-to-the-bone storytelling... of which his bold and unorthodox art style was a MAJOR part. It transformed before our eyes, getting better and better with each issue (and then jumping to lightspeed with Sam Keith's inks), and its ability to convey this moment (with the cramped and darkened upper panels blossoming open into the grand reveal of Excalibur unsheathed... in the back of an Edsel) showed a maturity of talent and recognition of story that exceeded his technical skill for the moment (but not for much longer). A pivotal moment in a beloved comic series, Felix; a touchstone event for all those who read this incredible work, and for Matt Wagner on his vast and (literally) storied artistic journey. Brilliant in every sense of the word, Felix - as an acquisition as well as a comic art testament. Mega-congrats!
