DescriptionKicking off this calendar year with my favorite Western (Super)hero, the Two-Gun Kid. A very nice splash page with Dick Ayers as the penciller and Mike Esposito as the inker. The page itself has a very nice (albeit unusual) layout.Social/Sharing |

Oh, how I love this! Not only do you have a splash featuring the Two-Gun Kid, but together with the most famed outlaw of the American West, Billy the Kid! I also really like the montage of guns and ammo images!

Many thanks, Rubén! Yes, the montage of guns and bullets is rather unusual indeed.

Days when
We'd fight, we'd fight 'til Kids would give in
Yeah, perfect Dick Ayers
We were reaching, reaching for the Liebers
And on most of the days they were auction pages
To get up and get behind the bids that we had raised, yeah, Cause we had won
I remember, they were shooting up bars
They were shooting at hearts
Western playing guitars
With Billy the Kid 'til he saw Two-Gun
And we had Mickey inks like
I refuse to outlaw thinking days were better
Just because they're montage ways
I don't know what's 'round the corner
Way I feel right now I swear on a western page
Back when they were Kids
Swore they would never die
Both of them were Kids
Swear that they'll never die

Swear that they'll never die
That was the West
No rest, even for the best
There was the Two-Gun Kid
He never hid
He would never run
And sometimes used his gun
The first Western Superhero
In days when there was neither disco nor limo.

All this for only 12 cents?
Lucky indeed!
Those were the days, Rick! And original comic art was still pretty affordable in the few years subsequent to that ... sigh ...

Awesome twice-up Marvel splash!
Many thanks, West! The good thing about Westerns is that a splash like this is still (just barely) affordable.

SO cool! "This one makes the showdown at O.K. Corral look like a square dance!" Everything one would want from a Silver Age splash: the protagonist, the antagonist, the weapons of choice, the credit box, the beautiful lettering (and million-dollar title)... How could anyone hope to keep hold of their 12 cents after peeking inside the issue and seeing this?
Such a fantastic first add of 2023, CAB! This is awesome - sincere congrats!

The Two-Gun Kid meets Billy The Kid? Fantastic! And what a beautiful title splash to commemorate such a meet. You wouldn't think from it's amazing condition that the art and board are 57 years old. I'm 57 years old, and I wish I looked that good, lol. I love the huge guns and bullets, which kind of bring home the monumental significance of such a showdown. Congrats, and Happy New Year!!

Kickoff noted!
Many thanks, Mark! As of now, I am not sure it kicks off very much! Still, I hope to get some new pieces this year (high prices notwithstanding) and perhaps find some in the archives. Happy New Year to everyone and a toast to this hobby that we all love.

Absolutely beautiful! A big congratulations to you on acquiring this wonderful page. I'm happy to see someone else that has such a strong appreciation for the Mighty Marvel western genre. I strongly believe that this area of collecting is the best value in the hobby...where vintage splashes remain relatively affordable.

Many thanks, John! In tandem with the general upward trend in original comic art prices, though, even Western artwork is becoming more expensive. But as you have correctly pointed out, it is still relatively affordable.

Many thanks, Felix! I never would have envisaged that I would like this character so much. In addition to what I have already mentioned elsewhere, there is a more personal backstory to this which I would like to share with everyone one day.

Halfway between a comic splash and a theater lobby card. A fantastic example for this title and the genre. Great pick up!

Many thanks, Ilia! There aren't that many collectors who like Western pages, so it is so encouraging to hear this.
