DescriptionOf all the Rip's I've owned, this one is my favorite. Raymond got better and better as the strip went on, and the final year has some of my favorite examples. He would die tragically 2 months after this was printed.Social/Sharing |

The ability to draw fingerprints in this size witht he tools he had is pretty fine work beyond expectations.

Fantastic Rip daily Tony. It's amazing how three panels put you right into the intrigue of the story and the 50s atmosphere.

Fantastic Rip Kirby strip by Alex Raymond. I love Raymond's work on this strip. He was mostly known for his Flash Gordon work, but clearly he had more talent than just that. I love his drawings of ordinary people, their faces, their clothing, the rooms they live in. Those first two scenes give us a crisp, clean look at a police office. Rip and the detective are drawn well. Notice how the folds in the clothing are drawn so realistically. I love the smoke from the cigarette in the second panel. And in the third panel, notice how each character has a distinctly different look. Nice details in the background as well. It's a great example of Alwx Raymond's incredible talent. Fantastic pick-up, congrats!

Great observations. Thats why Raymond is the king of strip artists. There were a lot of really talented strip artists in the golden age of photo-realistic newspaper strips - but Raymond was just a notch above the rest. Thanks for the comment!
