I love all the photo-realistic newspaper strips of the 40's - 60's, which were aided by the invention of the polaroid camera - a tool artists used to great effect to stage their strips. The undisputed king of the strip artists is Alex Raymond. He was already brilliant by the time he finished Flash Gordon, but I think he got even better on Rip Kirby. In fact, he got better and better right up until he died tragically in a car accident way too young. I think if I ONLY collected Alex Raymond Rip Kirby's, I'd be plenty happy.
