Absolutely stunning daily!!! Congrats, I remember admiring this one in another prominent collection years ago... :-)
Thanks Monty! Not sure why anyone would sell this - but thanks whoever you are!
That's a beauty! The glow on her face gives us a look that captivates!
Oh, yeah! Who says men don't make passes at girls who wear glasses? Not only is the middle panel fetching as heck, the last one's practically a sea of (well-navigated) ink. Raymond is justly revered as a master of the comic strip form.
Gorgeous! Truly a master at work.
Words fail me too. I like ladies with glasses.
Terrific RK daily! Great shadows, expressions, and staging. It feels a bit like Caniff to me
I don't know if I've seen a more perfectly "noir" Raymond. Every panel is a treat to look at.
Thanks Tim. Can't believe how good this one is myself! Raymond is the king of the strips in my book.
Love the lighting here! Wow!
Amazing how different (and accurate) the car interior ligthing is vs. the exterior street scene. Just incredible. Thanks for the comment!
Amazing piece. It's interesting to compare a subtle tightening in Raymond's inking technique on these high key images between this strip in October 1949 and one with similar lighting in Monty B.'s gallery from four months later (1950-2-3).
I don't think his style changed too much between the two. But I always noticed a big change after 1949. In fact, I can usually spot a 1949 daily just by looking at the style. I think Raymond got looser over time - but also better. The 49 dailies look a little stiff to me.
Lighting on this strip is just wow!
Agree! Thanks Mark!
