DescriptionWriter Chris Claremont, penciller Al Rio, and inker Bob McLeod. There’s three aces for you. And when I saw an opportunity to pick up both Al’s approval pencil layouts and Bob’s inked final art (I’m posting both separately), I couldn’t resist keeping them together.Warlock and Sunspot take care of the bad guys in the top panel. Sunspot realizes his mother his been injured during the melee. Warlock morphs into his human guise as Roberto asks him to call for help. Spoiler alert from this alternate timeline tale from back in 2010… she survives! Social/Sharing |

Pencil easy (pencils easy)
Better slow down, world
Rio’s Roberto
Does your mother know?
Take it easy (take it easy)
Try to claim this world
Pencils nice and slow
Does your mother know?
I can see what you want
But you seem pretty young to be reading for that kind of fun
So maybe add the inked one
Now you're astute, Al Rio style
And I know what you mean when you give me an ace with that smile (smile)
Injured, the mother of child
Well, I comment with you, Jeffrey, if you think it's funny
Does your mother know she’s knocked out?
And I can chat with you, Jeffrey, claim a pencil doozy
Does your mother know she’s knocked out?

I believe this was one of Al Rio's last major works before his passing. I enjoyed his art, and I thought he and McLeod gave this series a nice classic feel.

It was, I think published within the last year before his passing.

I always love the opportunity to see how rough a given penciller's layouts are. These are great teaching tools, as it also gives a fan/collector a good idea of just how much more work is involved when you're credited as the "finisher", as those guys have to tighten up the pencils quite a bit and then go in with the finished inks.
