DescriptionHere is a page from Sandokan by Hugo Pratt. Thought to be the prototype to Corto Maltese. This project was started for the Argentinian market before the first Corto book. After the first Corto book, Sandokan remained unfinished and Pratt left Argentina for Europe to continue creating Corto. It is clear that other than some facial hair differences, there is a Corto Maltese like character. Pratt finished the first half of the book plus a few pages from the second half and then abandoned the project. The art disappeared for decades and copies of the art reappeared in the early 2000's with publication in Europe. The original art has recently surfaced and pages were/are available through Krazy Art gallery in Milan, a new retail comic art gallery. I was lucky to be among the first to see the art and had a chance to choose from almost all the pages. I picked 2 very different pages.Social/Sharing |

After so many years of waiting, you finally acquired your Hugo Pratt examples. Not just one but two of them. As they say, when it rains it pours! Just lovely. Kudos!

Signature Pratt artwork that romanticize the seafaring scenes showing how the water surface should be done on an ocean body. It rises and crests to bring us where the open seascape meets the horizon.

Great example. The graphics here - gulls, ocean, ships - are very characteristic of mid-to-late sixties Pratt - and that means stylistically very similar to the first Corto Maltese story.
