DescriptionOh, that Christopher Priest run on Black Panther is easily one of my 5 favorite runs of the last 20 years. Sal and Bob took over the art early in the series and quickly made the book their own.Sal's anatomy isn't always the prettiest but it was always dynamic and never boring. This splash epitomizes that and the great way they leaned into the updated costume. Coincidentally, this piece pairs extremely well with a Vixen splash also featuring a marquee from JLA. They are side by side on my wall. Many thanks to Demetrios for letting me rehome this excellent page. Social/Sharing |

It's showtime at the Apollo! Perfectly acceptable with attitude over anatomy in an age when hitting the high note is an accomplishment in itself!

You know I share your love for that run, probably the most essential on the character. Velluto did a great job on the series and you've got quite an impressive splash.

Dynamic, no doubt! Hard to top as an example from Velluto/Almond's renowned run. And the Apollo sign in the background is a nice bonus :) Congrats!

Great Black Panther figure with an excellent background. Love the Oedipus Rex marquee.

A wonderful splash, congrats, Chris! I'm glad you mentioned the truth about the anatomy, because like you, I also noticed Velluto often drew some wonky anatomy, yet in spite of it, I always loved his art on this book. He was a very dynamic penciller and I also loved how he rendered.

Showtime at the Apollo! This piece is incredibly dynamic... and serves as yet another reminder that I need to go back and read Priest's run on Black Panther.
