Description

Wolverine was the only title I collected year after year as a kid, and John Buscema's run to kick of the series made a huge impact on me. I had discovered the X-Men in the 90s with plenty of other kids, but I soon obsessed to hunt down all issues prior. I found a treasure trove of back issues with art by Miller, Buscema, and Silvestri among others, and they cemented my favorite character even more.

I'm quite happy to have an early page from Big John's work on the series, this one featuring burly Roughhouse, who really can take every punch thrown to his bearded face by our favorite ol Canucklehead. I loved how Patch's Madripoor storylines were simple noir in concept and had a very down to earth feel. Sure, these days he gets into extraterrestrial trouble as much as the next hero, but the back issues in Madripoor and Japan will always be my favorite. They really grounded the character for me. He's just a normal, hairy guy who likes beer and has a mysterious past...and an adamantium skeleton, healing factor, hyper senses...you know, normal stuff.

Big John + Al on inks? Doesn't get better than this. SNIKT

Great page where is just a rough house brawl where John and Al can bring classical illustration poses to the modern comic action. Not hard to imagine some of these panels used in other genres like westerns or knights.
