11.5x17" DC/Vertigo artboard features pen and ink original art for cover to Action Comics #866, published by DC Comics Aug. 2008. Art is by Gary Frank w/inks by Brad Anderson and features great scene w/full body image of Superman surrounded by the captured bottle cities of Brainiac, who can be seen lurking in bkg. Of note, four of the bottles feature Superman supporting characters like Lois Lane, Ma and Pa Kent as well as the Daily Planet's Jimmy Olsen, Perry White, Cat Grant and Ron Troupe. Of particular note, the bottles features great detail which was somewhat diminished by the frosted effect applied during final publication. Frank has initialed work at lower right. Top margin has Frank's name and title in pencil w/inked issue number. Art was for first part of the Brainiac storyline, "Brainiac, Part 1: First Contact" which breathed new life into the longtime Superman villain. Exc. Considered one of the top Superman artists of the modern era, Frank's depiction of the Man of Steel (frequently utilizing the face of Superman actor Christopher Reeve) is in high demand, w/his original art rarely coming up for auction, let along a cover of this spectacular caliber.
