DescriptionIt's only February, but I am POSITIVE this will be my favorite acquisition of 2023.Rek-Rap was created by Ed McGuinness himself as a kind of 'Bizarro Spider-Man' (Parker spelled backwards) ... which, let's face it, is a FANTASTIC and SUPER FUN idea! In fact, this issue (#17) and the next one (#18), where Spidey and Rek-Rap face the Insidious Six and an amped up Chasm, were fantastic and super fun reads. As my great friend Ruben DaCollector likes to say, comic books should be all about the fun, and these issues deliver in spades, thanks to the writing talents of Zeb Wells, and of course the stunning art of Ed and Cliff Rathburn. I am SO thrilled AND grateful to add this one to my collection. My most special thanks to Ed himself for this one!! In the next couple days, I will be posting the origin pages for Rek-Rap, which are also super fun. [Hint: Underoos are involved.] I'll also be posting some pages featuring the Insidious Six. Stay tuned!! Social/Sharing |

This feels like the perfect fit for Ed to create and draw as a big, bulky, pure-fun character with Spidey-characteristics. Excited to see the other pages you picked up as well.

This definately screams fun and I couldn't help but think this baddy would also make a great TMNT villain as he has that Turtle like facial expression! Congrats on this cool pick up!

Rek-Rap? Rek-Rap?!? Hah ha ha ha ha! I mean, if this isn't one of the most over the top ideas that have ever been put into print, I don't know what WOULD be! I really like that Ed made him super bulky but without the pinhead to stress that fact. What a wonderful illustration, too, really bringing the fun out of FUNtastic. Can't wait to read the ridiculously over the top origin story!

Haha, yup, Rek-Rap. Since he's essentially a Bizarro Spidey, it's fitting that his name is a backwards version of Peter's last name. And like with 'Spider-Man,' don't ever forget that hyphen! More on Rek-Rap's origins tonight. (I love this character!!)

Wow, so kind of a Bizarro Spidey? As you (and Rubén) said, what a fun concept! So simple to just spell his name backwards, too, but perfect. Zibarro was always one of my favorite concept characters. Heh, and I can tell I'll like Rek-Rap just from that pose. Sold, I'm checking it out! Another sweet Spidey page for you, Paul. Swinging high!

Rek-Rap, lol! I'd never thought of that one! Though I have in my head played around with some backward comics/cartoon stuff. I thought "Sremrofsnart" was a good one :)
This is nutty good stuff, man, and I agree, that's what we need in our books at times! I haven't read the story yet, but definitely plan to. Congrats!

The Spidey-Verse does need a bruiser type! It hs a TMNT vibe too with the brick alleyway and that big smile!

And there he is! A fantastic new spin on the webbed one's supporting cast, and I can't think of anyone better to have co-launched the character than Ed McGuinness. I mean - LOOK at that. Pure four-color perfection (in two colors!)! But you know what this means, most importantly, right? We'll soon be seeing MON-NEV, a waif-like, dripping shadow, oozing from alleyway to alleyway, making REK-RAP's life confusing by setting his "Limbo Tingle" danger sense off at every turn... A triumphant add to both the Spidey mythos and your collection, Paul! Fabulous, fun pick up - congrats!

The chunky larger than life style that made me a fan of Ed's work is on full display with this stellar piece. Congratulations on this super fun splash page.

You know, you've been saving me so much time. Instead of heading over to the local comic shop I can just go through your Spidey gallery to keep up with the latest Spidey developments! I owe you a coffee!
