Description

Original Art Page to The Savage Sword of Conan #49, published by Marvel Comics in February 1980. This is Pg. 44 from the issue, and is an amazing half-splash, with outstanding images of the legendary Cimmerian hero in every single panel! The legendary John Buscema is one of the greatest artists ever to work at Marvel Comics (and the comics industry as a whole, for that matter). "Big John" drew pretty much every major Marvel book or character at one time or another, and is known for classic runs on the Silver Surfer, Conan the Barbarian, the Savage Sword of Conan, the Mighty Thor, Wolverine from the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, and the Avengers. Quality John Buscema examples are getting tougher and tougher to find, and splashy pages of this level very rarely come up for sale. This is an outstanding example of his work, and a character-defining type of page, which stands as a perfect frame-worthy stand alone piece if you want an example that perfectly represents the character of Conan. It is Big John at the height of his powers. The back has a Marvel copyright stamp of 1979, so this page perfectly straddles the late 1970's Bronze Age and early 1980's Modern Age, which was a classic era for Conan at the forefront of the sword and sorcery genre. The page is in very good overall condition, but looks like it is missing a piece of zipatone shading film in the left side of the background of panel 3. This is an awesome piece that would look fantastic framed and prominently displayed, and would be an outstanding addition to any collection.
