Description

I'm thrilled to add this dynamic 11x17 page that showcases Nate Powell's masterful storytelling and page design skills. I first encountered Powell's art in the award-winning March, late congressman John Lewis's three-volume graphic autobiography that focused on his time in the early U.S. civil rights movement. Powell excelled at drawing both dramatic and quiet moments in March and I made a point of tracking down and reading his creator-owned work afterward.

Two Dead, written by Van Jensen, is a departure from March in terms of genre (a work of noir fiction rather than autobiography) that nevertheless threads together many of the same cultural, social, and racial themes as the Lewis book. Although Powell is a seasoned comics veteran at this point, he continues to push the envelope in terms of the projects he takes on and uses his skills in service of stories with complex characters and themes. For me, his name on a project is a guarantee of beautiful art in service of a compelling story.

This is a great example of Powell's consummate visual storytelling. Amazing page.
