Description

A new adventure begins for the Doctor this week!

Well, maybe not so new...A grail for me here, since not only is this my first page by the genius Gerry Haylock - whose Jon Pertwee looked more like Jon Pertwee than Jon Pertwee did - but also, I'm pretty sure that 'The Metal Eaters' was the first Dr Who comic that I ever read, back in the hazy days of summer 1974. In that Welsh summer of 1974, I imagined those deadly McTurk insects, swarming across the land, devouring TV towers, tanks, electricity pylons, the Blackpool Tower...

But, wait, you say! Surely this is the Fourth Doctor, Tom Baker? Well, by 1978, TV Comic was on its uppers, and the Dr Who strip was soon to move to its own magazine. Editorial started to recycle old stories, and, in an amusing act of artistic vandalism, had the irascible John Canning ink Tom Baker's likeness over Gerry Haylocks's 1974 masterful Jon Pertwee: creating, indeed, a new adventure for a new Doctor...which is better? You decide...
