Description"ANT! ANT!"Blast from the past! Ant Wars! This nutty creation from reliable Scots artdroid Gerry Finley-Day was a mash-up of the twin 70's obsession with killer animals (The Rats, The Pike, Crabs!) and South American army ants. Here the slightly ineffectual Brazilian Captain Villa, and his racist caricature Indian companion, Anteater, escape from the doomed DaSilva plantation via a sewer. Adios Ants! The art, by Spanish sci-fi cheesecake king Alfonzo Azpiri (who would go onto greater fame than hack work on Ant Wars), is reliably gonzo, suitable for Finlay-Day's over-the-top ant-ics (geddit?) In 1978, Anteater and Villa escaped from DaSilva plantation. All they found of him was a muddy set of prison clothes, a bar of soap, and an old rock hammer, damn near worn down to the nub. I remember thinking it would take a man six hundred years to tunnel through the wall with it. Old Villa did it in less than twenty. Oh, Villa loved geology. I imagine it appealed to his meticulous nature. An ice age here, million years of hive building there. Geology is the study of pressure and time. That's all it takes really, pressure, and time. That, and a big goddamn Anteater. Like I said, in DaSilva plantation a man will do most anything to keep his mind occupied. Turns out Villa's favorite hobby was totin' his wall out into the exercise yard, a handful at a time. I guess after Azpiri had left, Villa decided he'd been here just about long enough. Aspiri drew like he was told, buffed those lines to a high mirror shine. The ants simply didn't notice. Neither did I... I mean, seriously, how often do you really look at a mans shoes? Anteater anf Villa crawled to freedom through five hundred yards of shit smelling foulness I can't even imagine, or maybe I just don't want to. Five hundred yards... that's the length of five football fields, just shy of half a mile.
