Description

I really wanted a nice Ramona Fradon example from Super Friends and when this page came up, I knew I had to make a go for it.

For one, I had discussed this issue on my buddy Rob's "For All Mankind" Super Friends Podcast.

For two, it wasn't Batman, Robin or Wonder Woman that caught my eye, but Superman's (2nd best after Maxima) girlfriend, Lyla Lerrol!

I don't imagine I'd have very many opportunities to get a page with Lyla Lerrol, the Marilyn Monroe of Krypton! (Even if you're not familiar with her appearances in the Silver Age or Super Friends, you'd likely remember her from the Alan Moore "For the Man Who Has Everything" as the woman Kal-El marries in his perfect 'Black Mercy' world.)

Wow! That is an awesome piece and a half. Love the look of the whole page. Batman, Wonder Woman, Ramona Fradon. Love that you added in Ben Oda on the letters.

Rounded off corners add much of the charm to the story. Fradon's timeless battle action choreography takes place in the seemingly not-so-distant past, even though this page is from way back in 1979.

I think the action here is better than it was in the actual TV show. And just out of curiosity, where does Lois Lane rank on your list of Superman's girlfriends?

Great page Derek! For me, it is Fradon's classic images of Batman and WW and all the action on the page. For you, Lyla Lerrol is ahead of some of the other "LL" women in Superman's life? Poor Lois Lane 😔
