DescriptionHere is a key interior page from Annihilation: Conquest – Starlord Issue #1, released July 25, 2007. This is the second of two pages that depict the historic first meeting between Star-Lord and Rocket Raccoon, a major moment in Marvel cosmic history. This page also marks the first narrative connection between Rocket Raccoon and Groot, as Groot is referenced here for the first time in Rocket’s presence. Though they do not yet interact directly, this moment begins the pairing that would become one of Marvel’s most iconic cosmic duos. Rocket appears in a Kree prison, where Peter Quill is tasked with assembling a strike team to liberate Hala from the Phalanx. Rocket and the others are considered expendable, making them ideal for the mission. The team includes Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Star-Lord, Mantis, Bug, Deathcry, and Captain Universe. This lineup forms the foundation of the modern Guardians of the Galaxy before their official debut in Annihilation Conquest Issue #6. Comic Art Board 11x17. Social/Sharing |

Isn't that the importance of it all. It is now the modern mythology. I love telling the stories to my kiddos and talking about them with others. Thanks Rubén.

Now somewhere in the black fountain inks Olazaba
There lived a young boy named Rocket Raccoon
And one page Kieth Giffen wrote up with a wooden guy
Hit young Timothy Green lines
Rocky didn't like that
Kree said, "Annihilate that boy"
So one day he walked infraction
Booked himself a room in the local prison
Rocket Raccoon, checked in with his Groot
Only to find Starlord's title
Rocket had come equipped with a gun
To pull off Guardians assemble

And the fact that this song inspired the character makes it all the more awesome. The best part is that he comes equiped with a gun and he is also known as Rocky in some titles. Love it and thanks Marcus. Perfect song for a perfect Raccoon.

Another pivotal Guardians of the Galaxy page, with great images of Rocket! So fun to see how the team we know and love came to be a team. Thanks for sharing!

There are a few more pages that help show their progression coming, but this was a great start from a modern aspect.
