DescriptionMilton Caniff knew the risks of war and didn't shy away in his story. He wanted the folks at home to understand what our boys were going through and in this short daily we see the loss of a soldier. I think he wanted to show fast and unexpected everything happens.Social/Sharing |

Caniff certainly gave a grittier view of the war than many of his contemporaries. It was not all about valor and justice but often about the human costs on both sides. That last panel is a work of art as is the Caniff girl.

Beauty and tragedy. It's subject matter and time period makes this more than a comic strip and in the realm of a history lesson.
