Description

Beautifully rendered Pen and ink drawing with charcoal and white highlight on textured paper from the 1922 novel The Chessmen of Mars, in fact it was sold to me as a very finished preliminary used for the seventh plate (p. 292) from the notable ERB book. It looks like a fully finished drawing to my eyes! Elegant and timeless. by J. Allen St. John (American, 1872-1957). A look at the full unframed sheet really shows what a delicate craftsman St John was.
