DescriptionI had to go to the mat for this one, but it was in the famed Marvel Masterworks Pin-Up series, and featured not only the Two-Gun Kid himself but also his civilian self, Matt Hawk, his close friend, Boom-Boom Brown (with traditional top hat and cigar), as well as Sheriff Bret Barton and school teacher Nancy Carter. The only disappointing feature is that the Two-Gun Kid's head is a tipped in photostatic reproduction, although there appears to be original artwork underneath. This may have something to do with the positioning of the wording at the top of the art image, but I cannot be sure. Still, this is a one-of-a-kind twice up pin-up of one of my favorite characters (certainly my favorite character in the Western genre), and I am very glad to have obtained stewardship of it. Thanks very much, Ian! You know how much this character means to me so I am so glad to obtain this splendid pin-up (which tells a story in itself).

Many thanks, Michael! I love this particular character and have a separate CAF gallery devoted to various artists' interpretations of him.

A cornerstone in your gallery and collection! The Marvel Masterwork would be considered the definitive image of the character for decades back then.

Many thanks, Marcus! As always, you have hit the proverbial nail on the head. It was really something then for a character to be featured in such a pin-up. Add to that my love for the character, this was financial pain that I was willing to undergo.

I was wondering if you were going to go after this one! It's mindboggling to think that the cost doesn't even get you a Kirby anymore, but such is the market we continue to play in. I can't think of a better collection this piece should be in, so I'm very happy to see you got it, congratulations!

Many thanks, Rubén! Yes, I am so very happy to obtain this piece for reasons that will be obvious to those who have been following my CAF gallery as well as special Two-Gun Kid sketch postings. I think that it was just another person who pushed the price up but, at the end of the day, this was to me a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I had to dip into an "emergency fund" to stretch for it.

I knew when this auction ended where this amazing page was headed. Congratulations on a truly stellar, early Marvel western splash!

Many thanks, John! It was a real stretch but this was - as you have perceptively pointed out - one of the very few pieces that I would really go to the mat for.

....and sorry to keep referring to this piece as a "splash", but I posted my comment at 4AM...lol. These pin-ups are few and far between and this is one of the best!

Not at all, John! It is the substance and (more importantly) spirit of the comment that counts. Much appreciated!

Many thanks once again, Al! In fact, my real grail is from another issue of the Two-Gun Kid, which I hope I can post one day. So this pin-up was really important to me.

I'll admit to not knowing much about the inker here -but the brush work is just fabulous and that makes this one something I could stare at for a long time. Gorgeous work!

Thanks so much, Duke! Sol Brodsky was often uncredited but was a really skilful artist nonetheless.

Roll call! WOW, CAB! This is terrific! Knowing how much you love The Kid, I can think of no better steward for this piece, with the extended cast also captured for posterity here. You've been adding some terrific TGK pieces over the last few months, but this has got to stand as the beautiful crown jewel of your Two-Gun Kid-lection! Congrats, CAB!

Thanks so much, Jason! Yes, you are absolutely right. However, much as I wanted to obtain this piece, the bidding was pretty brutal and I am glad that I managed to hang in there at the end.

This belongs in one collection and one collection only. A pox on those who dared to bid against CAB! (Just kidding...maybe.)

Thanks so much, Felix! At one point, I thought that I wouldn't get it, so I was just relieved when the other bidder threw in the towel!
