Description

E.R. Cruz : G.I. Combat #250 Story Page 9 (DC, 1983). Cruz' elegant sense of detail and his dynamic compositional sense prove ideally suited to this tale of a turning-point event in World War II, pitting an undercover Allied agent against an undercover Nazi. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". The page is in Very Good condition, with four closely trimmed corners (outside the image area) and some unobtrusive retouching and a tipped-in lettering correction.

The blending or horror and war genres was an easy one for Cruz. They each deal with grim subject matters, but with hope that the human spirit could prevail somehow. Cruz lays down portraits and lush scenery and even extents that amount of care to the skies on this end page.
