Bob Marley: Tale of the Tuff Gong # 2 page 26

The first car I ever owned had a tape deck in it. When I was sixteen the only two cassettes I owned were Bob Marley's "Legends" and Alice In Chains "Unplugged" so those albums were on repeat anytime I was driving.

This is a beautiful, splashy page with pencils by Gene Colan, which was hand painted by Tennyson "Jimmy" Smith. Colan is a comic book legend by himself but this collaboration of artist feels extra special with the addition of Smith's painting as he was also know for his album cover work with Bob Marley ("Rastaman Vibration", "Uprising") and Peter Tosh ("No Nuclear War").

UPDATE Oct 2024: I'm excited to share this piece has been on display from October 2024 through January 12th, 2025 for the "Collections In Black" exhibit at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center in Pittsburg, PA.

Colan and Smith get us up close to center stage! You can feel the thickness of the club's smoky atmosphere as Marley brings it!
