Description

John Buscema and Ernie Chan King Conan #2 Story Page 24 (Marvel, 1980). Conan and his party search the maze within the Sphinx on this page from the adaptation of the short story "The Black Sphinx of Nebthu" by L. Sprague de Camp and Lin Carter. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 10" x 15". Slight toning, trimmed top left corner, blue pencil editorial marks, missing page number paste-up at the bottom, with light handling wear. In Very Good condition.

Chan was one of the best story inkers for Buscema on Conan. Chan could have, but didn't stop the flow of the story with overexaggerated details. Instead, he enhanced the action aspects of Buscema's line to embolden the figures and their sense of purpose in service of the story while still turning in graphically pleasing pages.
