I have been eyeing this DPS on eBay for a long time. Georges is a friend I met through Brian Stelfreeze (both of whom are great guys and talented artists) decades ago now. I didn't like that my only work by him was a quickie sketch (it's a Batman head sketch in my "comics art: unpublished" gallery, if you're interested). I snagged this while at the con to avoid having it shipped, and Georges signed the unsigned page for me. When I got back home I went to look up the book it came from, since I haven't actually read all of the Gambit comics despite him being (hands down) my favorite male X-Men character (yes, I'm a terrible fan).

This is where it gets awesome...if you look at my wantlist you might notice that I am in search of X-Men/Gambit pages involving Genevieve D'Aubigne, an old flame of Gambit's. Now, of course, owning a page from the actual issue in which I first read about her (in the original 1990s X-Men series with art by Andy Kubert) would be great, but I have to say I found it pretty darn cool that the storyline from which this DPS comes involves Genevieve, and even more cool that I didn't even know it when I bought the piece. This piece obviously belongs in my collection!

What first attracted me to this piece was the daring use of perspective, something I have yet to get any good at in my own art experiments. I am also pretty picky about my Gambits...the face has to look a certain way (and I don't know exactly what it is, either), but I certainly prefer some artists' takes on him to others'. Georges draws a good Gambit! :)

I do need to apologize for the pictures of these uploads because they're not great. I am working on getting a bigger scanner to do my collection justice online.
