DescriptionContinuing '80s adds with Ron Lim! Actually connected to my Marvel Comics Presents post from last week, as both stories feature Bengal. This page, from his first appearance in Daredevil. Happy to get this as I have the 2 pages right after, so with this, a 3 page action sequence! See the other pages here - https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1272420 - and here - https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1272422Setting the scene here with both combatants arriving to the battlefield. Bengal first - love the half head shot in panel 3. Then DD in a great full figure shot in panel 4. He tries to head a fight off by conversatin', hoping cooler heads may prevail. But it's to no avail. This is "how it has to be". Then it's on. That blocked kick in panel 6 to punch in panel 7 transition kills, due to the character figures, but also due to the white to black background change. Rad. This was one of my favorite single issue stories as a kid, both in terms of art and story. As far as the former, this was the the only issue of DD that Lim drew, but regardless, it along with some Silver Surfer issues are what I think of when I think "Lim". Thanks, XC, for allowing me to pick it up! Social/Sharing |

I try similar techniques at times. Maybe not right before art viewing. But, hey, I'll give it a shot.
Thanks, John, and all, for the comments - always appreciated!

In his 1st appearance in the Marvel Universe, Bengal learns a lesson the hard way from DD. Great page and awesome sequence you have now. Congrats!

Adding some fireworks and pizzazz to your gallery on the 4th, eh, K? Imagine how exciting it is to get one page from a favorite book as a kid... now multiply that by -three-! Congrats, K!! A terrific lead in to the two following pages (as you'd expect :) ), and a great way to get things rolling, with that large vertical panel of DD dropping in to say hi... I really love the panel layout here, with those really uniquely-sized first three, then the vertical splash and three tiers running down alongside it... A really cool setup! But putting together a terrific three-page battle sequence is no small feat (and it only leaves 17 or 18 pages left in the issue for you to track down, right ;) ). Sincere congrats, K (and happy 4th)!

Yeah, Jason, when I look at all 3 pages side by side I definitely get a "the whole is great than the sum of its parts" vibe! I dig each page individually but it goes next level as a tandem. And yes, just 19 pages to go for complete issue. And I know where 1-2 of the others are. Shouldn't be too hard ;) Thanks for the add, man!

Love that 3rd panel with Daredevil and the one where he blocks Bengal's kick. So much great action.

Wow, what a fantastic three-page sequence you now have! Love the entrance of Bengal in that second panel after the nice establishing shot in panel 1 --- then that awesome entrance of Daredevil in the 4th panel. The last three panels go from face-off to action pretty quickly and dramatically. Hey, Daredevil tried, right? But sometimes that's JUST the way it has to be. Wonderful art and compelling storytelling by the masterful Ron Lim, congrats!

KG can't you remember
Replayed all the art
That sweet scene that Lim renders
When you gave it your heart
Please say you will... pay it again
'Cause we love it still
KG this can't be the end
We want it all
All of Murdock and Bengal
Birthing in this old page, page shows
Fighting for page of key Marvel
Here's lookin' at you kid
Birthing all the inks Jim did
We can find inks once again, I know
Just like they did in Daredevil

Lol, this lyric stands out after Jason Hussa's comment about getting the rest of the pages to this issue! "We can find inks once again, I know" :)
Thanks, Marcus!

Too silly not to LOVE! Between the dialog and the action has that 80s/90s action vibe. Congrats!

I was a big fan of Bengal's design when he first came out, especially the way Bagley drew him in New Warriors. I think I actually sought out and picked up this issue many years ago too as a first appearance collector. Very cool page man.

Thanks, Nate! Totally agree regarding Bengal's design - I remember thinking how unique it looked. And those NW issues were fun, no doubt. Issue 7 cover's definitely seared into my brain. Thanks, and glad you like!

"Did the jungle breathe?" I'll always remember that question as I, too, followed the Bengal's story from Daredevil to Marvel Comics Presents to New Warriors. Great page by Lim and Sanders!

"Leencon...deed the jungle breat?"
Yeah, man, that was the line. Such a compelling story and character to my 9 year old brain, and to this day. I thought you might like...and glad you do :) Thanks for the add!

Wow, not only do you end up acquiring ANOTHER page from this issue, but the lead in for the other two and what a fabulous page it is! Great images of BOTH characters abound and again, so cool to see Daredevil drawn by Ron Lim. A true rarity, indeed. Congrats, man!

I do love early Ron Lim work. A page like this serves as a reminder of why he was one of the top artists of that era.

Awesome addition and the 3 pages together are just incredible. I always think of Lim's Surfer and then Cap but his DD wasn't too shabby either. Congrats!

I love Ron's work from this vintage. He could dare Daredevil as well as he drew Captain America or the Silver Surfer. Big congratulations, my friend!

Just finding three consecutive pages is rare. To find one years later is like winning the lottery! Congrats!
