Description

At this year's spring edition of Dutch Comic Con in Utrecht, the organisation & Marvel assembled their entire 2023 class of Stormbreakers - the new iteration of the Young Guns. As Editor-in-Chief said at the show: these are the names you & the next generation of readers will know.

Present as well was artist Chris Allen (who recently redesigned Black Panther). While I had a few other names to visit first, I was extremely surprised by him & his wife. They were so very kind during our chat. I knew his first cover at Marvel was a John Romita Sr homage & with the recent news, we spoke about the influence of Mr Romita. In the end, we both felt like it would be a good idea to honour him with the topic for my sketch - hence the Spidey Sense Peter.

A highlight of the meeting was when Chris' wife had disappeared and surprised me with a 6,5 feet "Marvel's Stormbreakers" poster as a gift & that I had signed by the entire group. While I had a smaller version & small booklet, this was such a great piece for the collection. Truly epic!

A classic half faced Spidey and Peter, but seen turned at this angle provides more freedom for interpretation as how the nose and lips should look at the mask cutoff.

Funny that you mention that - when Chris started working on it, I didn't quite "see" how it would go yet, exactly because of the different 3/4 positioning. Very cool 'spin' on the subject matter!
