Description

Thole's fine art culture, taste for surrealism and weird sense of humour made his painted covers just perfect for Sci-fi, Horror and Suspense stories, for both books and comic books.
During his over forty years career as a cover artist, he worked mostly for Italian, German and French publishers, earning a robust fame as one of the greatest European artists in the field.
It is told that despite the images he created were often loosely related to the subject matter of the books (or even not related at all!) they were always so evocative and intriguing that the publishers couldn't help but use them anyway 😆

This striking piece was used as the cover for a German edition of Anne McCaffrey's sci-fi novel "Restoree" (first published by Ballantine Books in 1967), the story of a young woman who survives being abducted by aliens and finds a new life on another planet.

An unravelling of the mind and senses. This piercing cover would get the paperback pulled off the spinner rack!

Like layers of an onion peeled back, you don't know what to expect to emerge from the inner reaches of Thole's mind.
